Here in the Middle

share post

The lightest snow is still slipping from the sky after a night of a steady fall. Neighbors are outside playing with their kids, snow blowing their driveway, and renovating a kitchen (new neighbors moving in across the street).

All looks business as usual; you wouldn’t imagine it’s the last day of the year.

The turning of time comes, but it looks an awful lot like just another day.

Here we are, on the cusp of tomorrow, standing in today. What has all happened? What is to come?

Alfie lays curled on my lap, lets out a contented sigh.

Can I, too, sigh in satisfaction and relief, or do I hold my breath as best I can for all I know will meet me once the calendar turns?

Let the old and new collide, right here in the middle.

Let them blend, reflect, begin.

Newness starts now. Remembrance goes with us. And we hold each with both our hands.
