While We Wait | The In-Between
Key Ver se: But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
-Isaiah 40:31
It’s hard to wait.
For an answer. For a result. From a resolution to a conflict. For a dream. For healing.
Waiting can be agony, stuck in the middle of the what has been and not yet.
The disciples didn’t even know they were waiting. They saw the sword pierce skin. They heard the news that streaked through the city that Jesus was dead. They saw the stone rolled across the tomb. In the silence of that next morning, they reeled in disbelief at the events. The One on whom they’d hung their hope had breathed His last. This wasn’t what they were counting on, but they couldn’t see a way through. They didn’t understand the message Jesus had tried to send them over and over again about prophesies and what He said would be done.
We can slip over this part in the story because we know how it ends. But think about this day, a day that felt like defeat when it was just delay. Stretching faith, allowing time to sift through doubts, sadness, and growing something stronger in the wait.
We can’t see the full picture in our circumstances, but we know Who does. It’s here in our own waiting, where we can’t see our way through, that He comes close, drawing us to Himself. He encourages us to believe and build our hope in Jesus, who does not grow weary, but gives us endurance as we continue on, confident that He will come through in His way and His time.
Is there something you’ve been waiting for for a while? How can God strengthen you right now while you wait? What does the waiting after Jesus’ death show you about God and trusting Him?
Father, You make a way where there seems to be no way. Build my strength in You, the One who does not grow weary, as I build my faith during the wait. Amen.
