Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
-1 Timothy 6:17
Is it true that You are good?
Is it true that You are kind?
Is it true that You are caring?
Is it true that You take delight in me?
And not just taking delight, but all You’ve breathed and woven into this existence is purposed for my pleasure? That when You set the sun into the stretches of the sky, You thought of the way its rays would caress my face?
All You made, You called it good. And You are said to be gracious, bending Your ear to our cries and quick to show compassion.
You are good. Are You good to me?
If it is delight You seek, teach me how to open wide my eyes in wonder. Show me a breathlessness to soak in the beauty that blooms before me. Zero in my gaze at the patterns of shadow dancing on a backlit leaf all amber colored in the quiet of a golden hour woods.
Above all, massage my heart to dare to dream about impossibility. To balloon my heart up hopeful so it lifts from my chest and cannot help but take me from the ground. Remind me what it is to laugh again; make me surprised at the sound of my own giggle.
And open me to love. To receive the surprises You have for me and fall into Your affection. If You desire for my heart to beat with hope again, give it good reason to sing. From You all things stem, and Your hand pours out blessing because that is all You know. May I cup my palms and raise them above my head to receive my portion.
You give and take away. May Your name be praised. But when You give, there stands no comparison.
My spirit is in need of renovation regarding the hope I carry in my chest. That if I really am to dig my toes in the earth and push forward the tenderly growing belief to take You at Your beautiful word regarding my desires, then You must be ready to sustain my belief and confirm that You are trustworthy, that You will not let me down. If I take one step, guide me with two more. Let me see what overabundance looks like, feel what true astonishment feels like.
Delight. To take great pleasure in Your arrangement of my life, to hold my heart open to allow in what You are eager to give. For my eyes to shine into Your goodness, Your pure presence. For You to take delight in me.
Come up big for me. Give me good pleasure once again. Continue to astound me each inch I give You access to and overwhelm me with the depth and measure You reach into my rebuilding heart to fill it up until it spills over.
Delight in me. Describe to me just how deeply You want to reach into my secret place and pull me to life.

Consider and Respond:
Where or in what do I put my hope?
What does delighting in the Lord really mean?
God, what are You saying to me through this verse?
Lord, I long for Your delight. I long to delight in You, and to live each moment confident in Your care and tenderness. Show me what it is to crack open my heart and let Your love spill in. Lift my hope to take You at Your word, to prove Yourself as trustworthy as You say You are. Show me Your sweet disposition, the certainty with which You soothe me and sweep me close to Your side once again. Amen.
