This Landlocked Heart

share post

My heart feels landlocked
and is longing for the sea.
Longing for You,
longing for Living Water.
I am so parched,
barren, cracks in hard soil
splintering inside.
You promise spring rains,
refreshment, restoration.
A filling.

Where are the rains?
The refreshment?
My eyes fix to the horizon,
watching for the roll of cloud,
scent of rain on the air,
for a breeze to pick up.
Still nothing.
Stillness.
I am still watching.
I am still waiting.

You promise the rains,
an outpouring
of Your presence,
a softening of soil
for my hard and dust-filled
heart.

Watch for the cloud
to come, for the first sign
of the smallest shadow.
He who promised
is faithful, has purpose.
This soul-parch won’t remain.
Keep waiting, eyes on the sky,
readying your heart, longing.
Thirsting.
