All generous giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or the slightest hint of change. – James 1:17
All generous giving comes from God.
Like this Thursday morning,
the first of October,
where a light fog curls itself
over my street,
and the edges of trees
are tinted with color.
Where rain droplets dance
to the street, the grass,
and a perfectly sleepy puppy
is curled into the small of my back.
And fresh ground, just brewed
Mountain Java from Tennessee
brought back from visiting
my brother.
Light flickers from my
Fall Mood candle,
cinnamon, orange, and honey
scents waft through the air.
The wind outside blows,
picks up speed.
Could harder rain be coming?
All generous giving come from God,
Father of heaven’s light,
longing of every heart,
home to all who desire Him.
This puppy at my back,
the silence of this room
washed in warmth,
tap of rain on the roof—
all a gift this October day,
a welcome to His world
already existing, breathing,
waiting for me to take its hand
and follow.
